Why look for an AnswerThePublic alternative?

AnswerThePublic shows the questions search engines suggest as you type. That is useful, but it has two limits. First, autocomplete is a guess at what people type, not a record of what they ask in full sentences. Second, the plans are capped by searches: 100 a month on Starter, 200 on Growth.

The questions that turn into content worth writing usually come from somewhere else: Reddit threads, YouTube comments, People Also Ask boxes, and the follow-up searches AI assistants run. The tools below each pull from one of those sources. I use the same idea when I find low competition keywords: real questions first, volume second.

How did we pick these tools?

Each price was read from the vendor’s own page on 7 October 2026 and each screenshot taken the same day. We ran “best AnswerThePublic alternative” and “tools like AnswerThePublic that use real questions from Reddit” through ChatGPT with web search on and recorded the tools it named and the pages it cited.

Disclosure: I built ICP Keywords, one of the tools in this article. This list is framed around real questions, which is the job it was built for, so it is ranked first here. For a like-for-like copy of AnswerThePublic, AlsoAsked or Answer Socrates is closer. Links to it carry a tracking tag so I can see which articles send visitors.

Which AnswerThePublic alternatives are worth using?

1. ICP Keywords: best for questions from real conversations

ICP Keywords screenshot
Screenshot: ICP Keywords (icpkeywords.com), captured October 2026
Price: Standard $29.90/mo (3,000 credits), or $25 for 2,000 pay-as-you-go credits valid 12 months. Keyword generation is free and unlimited; credits pay for data lookups. Trial: 100 free credits, 7 days, no card. Source

ICP Keywords has two methods that do what AnswerThePublic users actually want: Productority Reddit reads real Reddit threads and returns the questions people ask in natural speech, and Productority YouTube does the same for comments under videos in your niche, split by how close the commenter is to buying. A third method, LLM Keywords, shows the follow-up queries ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity run on your topic.

Every question is then scored against your Ideal Customer Profile, so you see which ones your buyers ask. It does not draw the autocomplete wheel AnswerThePublic is known for. Try it with 100 free credits.

2. AlsoAsked: best for People Also Ask trees

AlsoAsked screenshot

Price: Basic $12/mo (100 credits), Lite $23/mo (300 credits, CSV export), Pro $47/mo (1,000 credits, bulk, API). Unlimited users on every plan; yearly billing saves 20%. Source

AlsoAsked maps Google’s People Also Ask boxes and shows how one question leads to the next. That branching view is the best way to plan a single article’s H2s and FAQ.

It is cheaper than AnswerThePublic per search and has no user cap. CSV export starts on Lite.

3. Answer Socrates: best free tier

Answer Socrates screenshot

Price: free tier for registered users; paid plans from $19/mo with a 7-day money-back guarantee. Source

Answer Socrates pulls questions from Google, Bing, YouTube and AI models in one search and clusters them into a content plan. Paid plans add AI visibility tracking across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and others.

It is the closest like-for-like AnswerThePublic replacement on this list, and the free tier is enough to test it.

4. KeywordOrbit: best one-time purchase

KeywordOrbit screenshot

Price: $97 once for the full version; free version after a 7-day trial. Desktop app for Windows and Mac. Source

KeywordOrbit does what AnswerThePublic does at its core, querying Google Autocomplete for your seed plus every letter and digit, up to three levels deep, and adds volume, CPC and trend. Volume data comes from Keyword Planner through your own Google Ads account.

Pick it if you hate subscriptions and are happy with autocomplete as the source.

5. Google Keyword Planner: free volume for any question you find

Google Keyword Planner screenshot

Price: free inside a Google Ads account. Source

Keyword Planner does not find questions, but it is the free way to check search volume for the questions you find elsewhere. Without active ad spend it shows volume ranges rather than exact numbers.

Whatever you pick, check the questions against your buyer before you write. A question with 1,000 searches from students is worth less to a SaaS business than one with 40 searches from buyers. I explain the difference in what buyer intent keywords are and the role of long-tail keywords. Our wider roundup of keyword research tools covers more options.

What do AI assistants recommend instead of AnswerThePublic?

Across our two AnswerThePublic prompts, ChatGPT named AlsoAsked, Semrush, Ahrefs, KeywordTool.io, QuestionDB and LowFruits. For the Reddit version of the question, it ran searches for Reddit question research tools and cited small tools such as PainPointMap, BuzzSearch and Linkeddit. None of the big suites were cited for the Reddit angle, which tells you how open that part of the market still is. More on how those citations work in how to get cited by Perplexity.

How do you turn questions into pages that rank?

Group questions that share the same search results into one page, answer each in the first sentence under its heading, and put the rest in an FAQ. Questions are also what AI assistants cite, so a page that answers them directly has two ways to win. See keyword research for zero-DR sites for choosing which questions a new site can win, and AI Overviews CTR statistics for what happens to clicks when Google answers the question itself. For the paid alternatives to the big suites, see Semrush alternatives.
